Application process

First of all, we are delighted that you’re interested in joining us at Ideal Standard International UK. Whilst we aim to make the application process as thorough as possible to ensure that we find the best people, we also intend to make the process as smooth as we can for our candidates. To support you during the application process, detailed below is a comprehensive step-by-step guide. This should answer all of your questions about the initial application, the interview stage and how the interviews are conducted. We will also cover the turnaround time of each stage of the process, and what to do to prepare when applying for the role.

Step 1: Application Stage

All applications must be made online via our careers pages. Simply click on the vacancy you wish to apply for and follow the instructions.

As you begin your application, you will be asked to complete a few initial questions. These ensure that you are able to meet the basic criteria for the role. Once your application is complete, you will receive an email confirmation and our HR team will aim to review your application within 48 hours.

In some circumstances, the review process can take up to four working days. Please be assured that we aim to assess all applicants as soon as possible. We contact every applicant to let them know if they have been selected for the next stage, or if we feel there are more suitable candidates.

If you are successful, we will get in touch to arrange an initial telephone interview, or a pre-recorded interview. Please note: for pre-recorded video interviews, you will need access to a webcam; laptops, tablets or smartphones are perfectly acceptable.

Shortlisting normally takes around five working days. If you are selected after the initial assessment, you will be invited for a face-to-face interview.

Step 2: The Interview Stage

The type and seniority of the role that you apply for will determine how many interview stages are required; 1, 2 or 3. This tailored approach allows us to find the perfect fit for the vacancy and for our company. It also enables you, the candidate, to get to know us better and find out more about life at Ideal Standard International. We appreciate that interviewing is a two-way process and we encourage you to explore during this phase.

During your first face-to-face interview, you will meet with two interviewers; the hiring manager and either, a member of their team or representative from HR. A section of your interview will include competency questions, which enable us to validate your application and gain a better insight into your experience.

You may also be required to complete a psychometric assessment, deliver a presentation, or complete a practical task on the day. For practical assignments, you will be fully briefed, so you’ll know in advance exactly what is expected of you.

We always give candidates adequate time to prepare. We advise all applicants to do their best, research the task well, and enjoy the process. If you are unsure about anything during the interview, you are free to seek clarification from your interviewers. We never deduct points for asking for clarity, so we urge candidates to ask as many questions as they need.

For senior roles, there may be several stages to your interview, so you will be required to meet us more than once. Not only does this help you relax into the process, but you will also get a chance to really get to know us. The interview may include a psychological assessment or an emotional intelligence reasoning test. Whilst these tests may seem daunting, we really just want you to be yourself and answer honestly – our team will make you feel as comfortable as possible throughout the process.

First and second stage interviews normally take around 1-2 weeks depending on candidate availability. If a third stage interview is required, you will be notified in good time. As a general approximation, the application and interview stages will take no longer than 4-6 weeks in total.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

Step 3: Offer Stage

If you have been successful, congratulations! Our interview stage is meticulous and by no means easy. So if you’ve been offered a place with us, we wholeheartedly welcome you to the team and look forward to exciting times ahead.

The first thing that will happen is that your recruiter will contact you to make a verbal offer. Once the verbal offer has been accepted, we will follow up with an offer in writing and we will aim to send a contract to you within 48 hours. Contracts will be emailed as well as posted to get the ball rolling as quickly as possible. We never leave our new employees waiting and we are always eager to bring people on board in a smooth and timely way.

WHAT DO WE LOOK FOR?

During the interview process, we look for people with a good attitude to work, a passion for joining a global brand, and a desire to progress their career. Individuals who demonstrate a methodical approach to problem solving, will do well – this is particularly relevant during the interview process to join our Apprenticeship Scheme. It is also important for us to select candidates who are inquisitive and have a thirst for knowledge, so we encourage all interviewees to be as open as possible with their questions.
